Message from the Mayor
I would like to thank Darrell Bushnell, Granada resident, expat and friend of tourism, development and social responsibility, for giving me this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to the global citizens who live, visit, or are thinking of visiting our city. I am Eulogio Mejia, Mayor of Granada, democratically elected by popular vote, representing Granada and its citizens.
In this year 2012, I would like to invite all of those who visit our beautiful city, the pride of Nicaragua, to enjoy the lovely public parks, the old cobblestone streets, and the historic colonial architecture, which reflect the warmth of our culture and its people.
I am committed to providing a clean, safe environment with high quality tourist services. Granada is actively working to increase investment in infrastructure, to promote entrepreneurism at every level, and to develop the human resources which will ensure and support local employment and the environmentally sensitive development of small and medium-sized businesses that maintain and enhance the historic, colonial ambience of our city, the “Gran Sultana” (Great Sultan) of the Americas.
The city is investing more than 30 million dollars over the next three years of my government in projects that will enhance infrastructure, public services, and sanitation, in order to promote and bolster tourism as the principal engine of our economy.
With the continued growth and sustainability we hope to attain over the next few years, the Mayor’s office is committed to addressing the problems of poverty and under-development with increased income, employment and education for the people of Granada.
Citizens of the world and foreign visitors: when you arrive here, please join me in saying, “Finally I’ve arrived in Granada!” Friends, I welcome you to our home and yours, Granada!
